Subsidy Discrimination Against Sabah and Sarawak
From Borneo Post, Sabah English Edition. Datuk Yong Teck Lee commented
on the extreme discrimination on the giving of subsidies to Sabah and
Sarawak, the poorest states in Malaysia.
Despite being the poorest states, and yet with huge resources in
Petroleum and other raw materials, subsidies given to them are the
lowest per quantity of essential items and even worse per capita
because these two statems account for more than 25% of the total
Malaysian population.
The subsidy for rice millers in Sabah and Sarawak is RM600 per ton vs
RM750 for West Malaysia. In all, the total spent is RM21.3 million vs
RM360 million which is more than 15 times or 6% for a population of
25%.
